It will be close to 4 years since my little brother almost lost his life in
a car accident.  I wrote this song after being called back to the east
coast to be by my younger brother’s side.  He had just been
released from ICU off the critical list and was sent to the step down
floor where he laid in a coma.  Each night I would sleep by his side
in a chair.  His room was freezing because of the machines that ran
to keep him alive, and through out the night I would get little sleep
because the nurses had to attend to Ted on a constant basis.  One
very groggy morning I woke up, a nurse brought me some instant
coffee and I just sat there talking to Ted, hoping he could hear me.
It was than, that I started to sing this melody and putting lyrics to
it.  In desperation of forgetting this new song idea, I ran to the
phone, dialed my calling card number to get an outside line, than
had to dial my number in Los Angeles, (the whole time trying not to
forget this amazing new song idea), and than waited until I heard
the beep so I could leave the song idea on my answering machine.
(This is why songwriters always carry tape recorders)  During the
course of my brother’s hospital stay, I would just sit with paper and
a pencil to write Teddy’s Song.  Amazingly enough, I never had to
go back and listen to the idea I put on my answering machine, the
song just stayed in my head as if God was writing it for me.

The message I want this song to send is; no matter what the
challenge is that you may face in life, whether it’s tragic, personal,
professional, whatever, as long as you believe, have total faith, and
never give up, then you can do anything and overcome anything.
My brother is a living example.
